Keeping your mindset afloat with the yo-yo lockdowns

Running a business while we deal with yo-yo lockdowns can leave you feeling a little dizzy. Thankfully, there are some steps you can take to help keep you afloat, and stay the right way up!

Let’s have a chat about how to manage this…..

Tips for managing your business and your sanity during lockdowns

There’s no getting away from the fact that lockdowns are hard. Going back and forth to the office, forgotten laptop chargers, different equipment at home, crap chair, noisy children! It just gets worse.

The best you can do in the current yo-yo of life is to be as mobile as possible. So, let’s look at some great ways to do this:

1. Streamline your equipment – and then duplicate it!

Streamline your equipment. Duplicate it! Don’t truck it back and forth, just log in. Invest in the comfy chair, buy a spare headset and laptop charger.

As for the kids, sorry don’t know what to do about them!

But in all seriousness, the key to surviving – even thriving – during lockdowns, is to be prepared, use technology to help you, and keep a check on your own mental health.

2. Sync your devices

Syncing your devices is an essential step in making sure you have the most up to date resources at hand no matter where you are.

Most of us use more than one device, therefore you need a syncing solution or strategy to make sure you always have the most recent email, documents, address book, photos, and files updated wherever you go.

This will save you time and a little piece of your sanity, not to mention keep your clients and customers happy because you’ll be able to provide the same level of service.

3. Embrace cloud filing

Cloud filing allows you to access your files from any logged in device. So, you save a file in a cloud system on one computer – say at your office – and then you’ll be able to access it from your home computer via your account.

This can really save you a lot of stress trying to remember various logins as you can just have one account to something like Google docs.

4. Set up reminders

Reminders are technology’s way of giving us a mental break.

Yeah, yeah, we all say, “I don’t need to write that down, I’ll remember it.’

But we know how that goes, don’t we?!

Seriously, just make your life easier by setting up reminders for various tasks – personal and professional.

You can set reminders for tasks, appointments, and meetings. This leaves you more brain space to actually get your work done – or to just survive the latest lockdown. Check out our free Day Planner Download here.

5. Find a sanity patch

Find yours and guard it like a dragon guards their treasure. Camp chair in the middle of the garden facing away from the street, small patch of sunlight at morning tea on the terrace, bench at the dog park… doesn’t matter where it is or how “nice” it is. Just find your own space and make sure you do not feel guilty for spending time there.

Your sanity patch offers you a chance to regroup, and come back better for your work, your family – and yourself.

6. Plan for remote teamwork

If you also have a team to manage, the good news is there are a lot of ways to manage a remote team successfully, such as using project management apps and instant communication platforms.

So, once you’re all set up, you can relax knowing everyone has what they need to get their work done.
